From Girl Boss to Just Wanting to Live: My Journey of Self-Discovery

Hey there! So, let’s talk about something real — the whole “girl boss” vibe that’s been buzzing around lately. Don’t get me wrong, I was all about it for a while. The idea of kicking butt in my career, being independent, and not needing anyone else? Yeah, sign me up. But as I’ve gotten older (hello, almost 30!), things have started to shift for me.

You see, I used to think marriage and family were for other people. I was all about the single life, dating without the commitment — you know the drill. But then, something changed. Suddenly, I found myself wanting things I never thought I would: kids, a husband, a family. It was like a plot twist I never saw coming.

At first, I felt kinda guilty about it. Like, was I betraying the whole “girl boss” ethos? Shouldn’t I be focused on my career and smashing glass ceilings or something? But then, I realized that wanting a family didn’t make me any less of a boss. It just made me… human.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had to be a total boss babe. Going to university, climbing the career ladder, all of it — it’s been a wild ride, and I wouldn’t change a thing. But lately, it feels like the whole “girl boss” thing has gotten out of hand.

People are out here pointing fingers, like if you want a family, you’re somehow weak or less-than. And don’t even get me started on the whole feminist scene. Wasn’t feminism supposed to be about choice? About supporting each other no matter what path we choose? Instead, it feels like there’s this pressure to conform to some kind of “one-size-fits-all” definition of success.

But here’s the thing — feminism isn’t about telling women what they should or shouldn’t do. It’s about giving us the freedom to choose our own paths, whether that’s killing it in the boardroom or being a stay-at-home mom. We’re all just trying to figure it out as we go, right?

So, as I navigate this crazy journey called life, I’m learning to embrace the messy, beautiful, complicated reality of it all. I’m not just a girl boss or a future soccer mom — I’m both, and everything in between. And you know what? That’s more than okay. It’s freaking awesome.

So here’s to all the women out there, whether you’re rocking the corporate world, changing diapers, or doing a bit of both. Let’s support each other, lift each other up, and celebrate the fact that we’re all just doing our best — whatever that looks like for each of us. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
