Taking a Break from Morning Routines: A Lesson in Imperfection and Teamwork
For almost two months now, I’ve been taking a break from my morning routine after reading the book, “Wabi Sabi: The Wisdom in Imperfection” by Nobuo Suzuki, Hectore Garcia. The book inspired me to listen to my body and take it easy on myself, even if it means letting go of some things that I have built for myself. However, it wasn’t an easy decision to make, especially when it comes to house cleaning tasks that I usually do before work. I wasn’t ready to trust my partner with these tasks and feared that the house would be messy and disorganized.
Despite my initial reservations, I communicated with my partner about my need to take it easy and get enough sleep. On day one of breaking my routine, I woke up to find the house not as clean as I expected, which made me feel terrible. However, I decided to embrace the change and see how it would play out over the next week. To my surprise, my partner started to do a lot of house cleaning tasks without complaining or being asked. He cleaned the house, did the laundry, and even tidied up the lawn and bed.
This unexpected turn of events was a blessing in disguise. We both became stronger as a team, working together seamlessly without any walkie-talkie or explicit instructions. We just knew each other’s roles and what needed to be done. We both gave each other thanks and 6 second hugs for the small things we did in the house, and we felt grateful for each other’s contributions.
Over the two months of taking a break from my morning routine, I realized that my body needed it to deal with the stress I was experiencing at work. However, I also learned the importance of imperfection and teamwork. It’s okay not to be perfect, and sometimes, taking a break can lead to unexpected discoveries and positive changes in one’s life and relationships.
As I get back to my morning routine, I know that I’ll start to question who does what in our relationship again. But for now, I’m grateful to have learned that imperfection can lead to something more authentic and beautiful, and that teamwork is key to making things work.
My take away, taking a break from your routine can be beneficial, especially when it comes to your physical and mental health. Imperfection is part of life, and it’s essential to embrace it and work together as a team to achieve your goals. Remember to communicate with your partner, listen to your body, and trust each other. It’s amazing what positive changes can happen when you take a step back and let go of control.
